How to log re-reads of the same book
Short answer: if an app stores a single reading record per book, re-reading has to overwrite your old dates. Use a tracker that saves each read as its own record, so Read 1 and Read 2 keep separate start and finish dates and both count in your stats.
Why re-reading erases the first read
Most reading trackers give each book one status and one pair of dates. Switching a finished book back to 'reading' replaces the old dates with new ones.
That's why people who reread favorites keep asking for a way to record the reading period of a second or third read.
Doing it without an app
In a spreadsheet, log one row per read rather than one row per book.
- Use columns for title, read number, start date, finish date and pages.
- When you reread, add a new row with read number 2.
- Count rows by finish date for yearly stats.
