Is there a daily swipe limit or a waiting timer?

No. There is no swipe cap and no cooldown of any length. Clean as many photos as you want in one sitting.

Do I need a subscription or premium to delete photos?

No. Deleting, reviewing, the trash screen and the screenshots and big videos decks are all free. The app is supported by ads.

Do I have to tap Allow for every photo I delete?

No. Tidyroll collects everything you marked in a month and shows a single Android system confirmation. One tap moves all of it to the trash.

What if it deletes photos I didn't select?

Before anything moves, you see every photo you marked in a review grid and can tap any of them to keep it. Even after that, items sit in the trash for 30 days and can be restored.

Can I get back photos I deleted by mistake?

Yes. Deleted items go to the Android trash rather than being erased, and stay there for 30 days. Restore them from the trash screen in the app and they return to where they were.

Does it work with Google Photos?

Tidyroll cleans photos stored on this device. Photos that exist only in Google Photos or another cloud are not touched. If a photo was backed up, deleting the device copy may leave the cloud copy, so check the Google Photos app separately.

Are my photos uploaded anywhere?

No. There is no account and no server. All cleaning happens on your phone and your photos are never sent anywhere.

Can I stop halfway and continue later?

Yes. Progress is saved per month, so you pick up where you left off. The home screen widget also shows how many photos are left to review.

Why photos you deleted still show up (Google Photos cloud vs device)

Short answer: a photo backed up to Google Photos exists twice, once on your phone and once in the cloud. Deleting the device copy with your gallery or a cleaner app frees phone storage, but Google Photos keeps showing the cloud copy. The reverse also holds: a photo that exists only in the cloud takes no space on your phone, so deleting it frees none.

Your photos live in two places

With backup on, each photo is saved on the phone and also copied to your Google account's cloud storage. Google Photos shows both merged together, so it's hard to tell which copy is left.

That's why reviews of photo cleaners say things like "does not work with Google photos and won't tell you this up front". Most cleaner apps only work on files stored on the device.

How to tell which copy is left

You can check from inside Google Photos.

Open the photo that keeps showing up in Google Photos.
Swipe up or tap ⋮ to see its details.
If there's no 'On device' entry and it only says 'Backed up', it exists only in the cloud.
If your phone's built-in gallery no longer shows it, the device copy is already gone.

What you should actually delete

If phone storage is the problem, delete only the device copy. The cloud copy stays as your backup. Google Photos' 'Free up space' option does exactly this for backed-up photos.

If your Google account storage (15 GB) is full, or you want the photo gone entirely, delete it inside Google Photos. With backup on, that also sends the device copy to the trash.

Either way, deleted photos stay in the trash for 30 days, so you can still restore them.
