How to back up and move your workout log to a new phone
Short answer: most workout tracker apps keep your history only on the phone, so export a backup file before you switch. Install the app on the new phone, import the file, and your history is back. Keep a CSV copy as well for extra safety.
"Got a new phone … all my data was lost"
It's one of the most common low-star reviews for gym log apps. Months or years of weights and reps disappear, and with them the baseline you need for progressive overload.
Why workout history disappears
Apps without accounts store data only on the device. Account-based apps can still start empty if the login method changes or the restore fails, and phone transfer tools sometimes skip app data.
Checklist before you switch
Do this before you wipe the old phone:
- Export a backup file from your workout app's settings.
- Upload it to Google Drive or email it to yourself.
- If possible, also export CSV — a copy you can open in Excel or Sheets regardless of the app.
- Install the same app on the new phone and import the backup file from settings.
- Check your latest workout dates and key lifts, then wipe the old phone.
How Repnote does it
