How to move your dream journal to a new phone with a backup file

The most common complaint in dream journal app reviews is "I lost all my dreams after switching phones." A journal stored only on your phone is great for privacy, but unless you make a backup file first, the new phone starts empty. In the right order, it takes about five minutes.

Check this before you switch

Find out where your dream journal is stored. Apps tied to a cloud account need you to sign in with the same account, and that feature is often paid. Apps that store everything on your phone need you to create a backup file and move it yourself.

Moving your Dreamfold journal, step by step

  • On the old phone, go to Settings → Backup & export → Save backup and pick a folder.
  • Move that file to the new phone — Google Drive, email or a USB cable all work.
  • Install Dreamfold on the new phone.
  • Go to Settings → Backup & export → Restore and choose the file.
  • You'll see "Restored N new dreams" and your list is back.

A habit that keeps dreams safe

Backing up only when you switch phones won't help if a phone breaks or gets lost. Pick a rhythm, such as once a month, and keep a copy somewhere other than your phone, like a cloud drive or a computer. Dreamfold shows how many days ago you last backed up in Settings. Backup, restore and export are all free.
