How to make a YouTube thumbnail on your phone (no PC, 5 minutes)

1. Pick one photo: a big face

The strongest element in a thumbnail is a human face. The best option is a separate phone shot of your biggest expression during filming; otherwise grab a video frame where the face is large. A busy background kills the text, so cutting the person out is the standard move.

2. Let the app remove the background

Background removal used to be a desktop job. Now it runs on the phone itself. In Thumbly's Cutout tab, pick a photo and the person comes back as a layer with the background gone. Big cutout on the right, text on the left is the most common layout and the easiest to read.

3. Three words, half the frame tall

Do not paste your title. Thumbnail text is three words at most, sized so it reads on a phone. White text with a black outline, or yellow with a black outline — those two combinations read on any background.

• Text tab → tap a style → type your words
• Drag the size slider until the text spans about half the canvas width
• Raise the outline slider until the text separates from the background

4. One sticker, not three

Fire, arrows and shocked faces pull the eye, but from the second one onward it gets noisy. Place a single sticker where the face or the text is pointing.

5. Save and send to YouTube Studio

Saving writes a 1280×720 JPG to your gallery. On the saved screen, tap Share and pick the YouTube Studio app, or in Studio open the video → change thumbnail → choose from gallery. Filming, editing, thumbnail and upload, all on one phone.
