Can't organize your thoughts? Try the 1-minute sheet

Messy thoughts are rarely a lack of thinking; they stay messy because they only live in your head. The 1-minute sheet is a simple method: one title and up to six lines in one minute, repeated several times a day. Once thoughts are on paper you can see them, and once you can see them you can choose.

Three reasons thoughts stay messy

First, the same thought loops in your head and feels bigger than it is. Second, you wait to organize everything perfectly, so you never start. Third, even when you write things down, you never reread them and start over from scratch.

Rules of the 1-minute sheet

The simpler the rules, the longer you keep them.

  • One title per sheet, up to six lines.
  • Write within one minute. Fast and messy is fine.
  • Aim for ten sheets a day, whenever something comes up.
  • Move the line that sticks to the title of the next sheet and dig deeper.
  • End with a one-line conclusion and a one-line next action.

Rereading finishes the job

Reread a sheet a week, a month or three months later and you will find most worries resolved or less important. Dig again only into the ones still there.

Thinksheet is an Android notes app with a 60-second timer, title-plus-six-line sheets, tap-to-dig-deeper and revisits at 7, 30 and 90 days. No account or subscription; sheets stay on your phone.
