Days until calculator: how to count days between dates
To count the days between two dates, subtract the start date from the end date. For example, October 18 to December 25 is 68 days. The only parts that trip people up are whether to include the end day and whether to skip weekends.
The basic method
Add up the remaining days in each month. October 18 to October 31 is 13 days, November has 30, and December 1 to 25 adds 25, so 13 + 30 + 25 = 68 days.
Common cases
| Case | Formula | Example |
|---|---|---|
| Days until | End − today | Oct 18 → Dec 25 = 68 days |
| Including both days | End − start + 1 | Day 1 is the start date itself |
| Workdays only | Skip Saturdays and Sundays | 49 workdays in those 68 days |
| Days since | Today − past date | "128 days ago" |
