What's wrong with just texting the list

"milk eggs bread tissues" in one message can't be ticked off in the aisle. You end up relying on memory and forgetting one thing.

Apps with built-in sharing have the opposite problem: everyone must install the same app and create an account. By the time you've talked your parents through sign-up, you're back to plain texts.

Sending — turn a folder into checklist text

Here's how it works in Cartnote.

• Open the folder you want to send (say, Groceries). You can add items in one go with commas: "milk, eggs, bread".
• Tap Send. The folder becomes checklist text with one item per line.
• Pick WhatsApp, Messages or any chat, and send it.

Receiving — paste, and each line is an item

If the other person uses Cartnote, they long-press the message, copy it and paste it into a list. Every line becomes its own item they can tick off in the store; checked items drop to the bottom.

If they don't have the app, that's fine too — checklist text reads as a list right in the chat.

If you shop at more than one store

Keep different lists for different stores — Groceries, Household, Pharmacy, or your own — and send each folder separately to whoever is going there. The person stopping at the pharmacy only gets the pharmacy list.
